Winfred L. Hill

Winfred L. Hill resident of Fillmore for 54 years died peacefully at his home on January 13, 2009. He was born at Mt. Ida, Arkansas May 9, 1922.
Winfred served in the Army Air Foce during World War II. He was especially proud of his time in the Fairbanks, Alaska testing cold weather bombs.
He obtained his B.S. from Arkansas College in 1953 and his Master’s from Arizona State in 1954. His first year of teaching was in Watts, California and then in 1955 he came to Fillmore and taught Jr. High until he retired in June 1983.
Winfred was a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church from childhood and continued his membership in the Fillmore Presbyterian Church and Fillmore Bible Church. He attended Faith Community Church after the two churches merged until his health declined. Through the years he served as an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and head usher.
Winfred from youth on loved fishing. After his retirement he found a new voice in writing poetry. His prize possession was the large note book of his poems of which have been published in the local papers and recited at church. His poems show his love of God, family, and friends and reveal his country wit.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Evelyn; 2 sons, Dr. John Hill of San Diego and Douglass Leon Hill of Fraizer Park; 2 daughters, Susan Hill of Oceanside and Nancy Hill of Camarillo and and their spouses: Ann Hill, Cherry Hill, Kathleen Helms, and Randy Beucus. Winfred was a proud grandfather to Jeffrey David Hill of Fresno, Emily Hill of San Diego, Raegan Thompson, Dariss Hill and Ian Douglas Hill of Fraizer Park. Also an aunt Dell Pepper of Glenwood, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lora Hill; father Henry Hill, and step brother, Max Brooks
A viewing will be held on Monday, Janurary 19, 2009 from 4:00-8:00 P.M. at the Skillin Carroll Chapel. Internment will be on Tuesday, Janurary 20 at 11:00 A.M. at Bardsdale Cemetery 1698 S. Sespe St, Fillmore. A memorial service will be held at Faith Community Church of Fillmore on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 2:00 P.M.
